Baking

Not cake - for those of you who get the inside joke.
Maybe it had something to do with my grandmother's death recently, as she was a phenomenal baker who included something from the oven with every meal. Maybe it had something to do with the fact I fancy myself a pseudo-gourmet and haven't had the time to cook a good meal in the last month. Maybe it was the lazy dayz of summer. Maybe it was all the happiness swirling around Laramie with the first WET spring in something like 5-7 years. Maybe it was a combination of, or all, of these things. But for whatever reason I decided last night I must BAKE. My favorite thing to bake is my Mother's bread recipe. Few people hate it, and when paired with grandma's cabbage bun recipe it is absolutely delightful. Being REALLY in the mood, I tripled the recipe. My Kitchen-aid mixer almost couldn't handle the sheer volume (the specs say it is deigned to handle 4 loafs of bread, I had at least 5).
I have 3 bakery size loafs, one half loaf, and made 18 cabbage rolls. MMMM MMM good!
I am so happy that right now, I can go home after work and not worry about doing some kind of homework, mandatory reading, travel, or anything. I am really enjoying just being home.

I am back - finally
Friday, May 20, 2005
After the last 4 sleepless weeks including a funeral, AIDS Walk, law school finals, and more time on the road than I care to EVER AGAIN REPEAT... I AM HOME!
Please do not be surprised if I am grumpy for a few days. I need a good hot rock and or deep tissue massage preceded and followed by some light drinking, bubbling, and LOTS of sleeping.
I look forward to rejoining in the flock's many follies post haste, just be aware that I won't be myself for a few more days. More than anything, I look forward to one again being around my Laramie Family, I have missed you all so very much.

Mother's Day
Sunday, May 08, 2005
On this mother's day I set in front of my television watching a special on motherhood. I am thinking about all the ways in which my mother, aunts, grandmothers and great-grandmothers have made me who I am today. I contemplate how I share many of their strengths, weaknesses, vulnerabilities, and personal shields. Nobody in this whole world has had the impact on me that these women have. As a result I would like to tell every mother that they are appreciated. That they make a difference.
Other women also need to know today that they are appreciated. They are mothers to humanity by being positive influences, furthering great ideals, and leading the way when others are afraid. I have met these women as my mother's friends, as extended relatives, teachers, colleagues and even my own personal friends. These women stand in the face of adversity and lead society on issues that are important to all of us.
With this thought in mind, I am making a pledge. This pledge is not of thanks, but of appreciation and a promise for the future. Because of the ways women have made me who I am today, I refuse (as a gay man) to raise children without these genetically XX influences. You can say what you want about women and men being inherently the same, but call it a result of society or whatever, but no man has impacted my life in the way some of these women have. As a result, much like my mother did by raising me close to home, I will keep strong women in my children's lives as neighbors and friends and most importantly my family. My mother recognized the importance of raising me in the village, and as homage to her I pledge to do the same for my children.

Later that day...
Thursday, May 05, 2005
So yesterday kicked off the two week semi-annual period of my law school existence known as finals weeks. And oh boy oh boy did we start with a bang. When I got there to get set up, after not having found my own network cable to hook my computer into the system, I was amazed to find that the wireless was not working. I figured it was my computer, after having had a similar problem at the Grounds. Little did I know of the impending doom. So I ran off to get a network cable from the library. Those fabulous people have just about anything a law student could want, especially in times of need.
So I got set up, and then came the doom. While I would love to elaborate, Mackenzie has pictures on his blog, so I will just send you there.
The good news, I am done with my test in Property II, and only have 4 more to go for the semester. Woo Hoo, now if I can only get motivated enough to keep studying. I just hear Dory in my head singing "just keep swimming." Unfortunately this does not help with the thinking processes.
